The JetBlue and Spirit Airlines merger is causing more controversy as the Justice Department and the Department of Transportation are looking to take action as early as Tuesday in an attempt to prevent the deal from concluding.
The merger, which was originally announced last summer, is valued as high as $3.8 billion and since then has faced significant scrutiny due to antitrust concerns.
The Justice Department will likely file an antitrust lawsuit arguing that the merger would significantly increase average flight costs across the board and give travelers fewer options when seeking a cheap flight.
