The Department of Defense has been developing a plan to deal with the continual global chip shortage. The DoD requested an additional $2.3 billion in the department’s budget in order to fund a program to bring semiconductor manufacturing back to the United States out of concern that a continual chip shortage poses serious national security risks.
Intel Corp. Won the contract with the DoD and will thus allow Intel to receive additional funding to build two factories in Arizona dedicated to the manufacturing of semiconductors. Intel has stated that the company is prepared to spend $20 billion on the development of factories.
Intel stated today that the company will cooperate with other companies such as International Business Machines CorpSynopsys Inc., and Cadence Design Systems Inc., and more to bolster the number of chips that can be produced.
